We sailed from Cambridge Cay to Big Majors Cay today, it was a 21 mile sail, the winds were good, just not in the perfect direction, but we left early and had no issues along the way. It will be tough sailing in the Chesapeake after this trip, going from this perfect blue, clear water to, well not so perfect water.
Big Majors is home to the famous swimming pigs, not really sure how these pigs got here, when i researched it there was a bunch of conflicting stories. My guess is for tourism. The pigs could get very aggressive when people are feeding, we seen one lady get bit on the ass. Also the pigs will try to jump in your boat if you are in too shallow of water. that for sure would have sunken us. If you have no food, they do not care about you tho, we walked on the beach with them and they did not care, but as soon as another boat came in, they went running to them.
Also on Big Majors is a small beach where cruisers get together, called cruisers beach, it looks like a good spot for a beach fire at night. We plan on being here for a few days, there are a bunch of things to see around here. We will keep you updated.
The map above with the black dotted lines shows our track for the day, since the ais is not real active out here i will try and put one of these maps out every now and then. we use 3 different maps for navigation in the bahamas, Aqua Maps, C Maps and Navionics. It is amazing how all 3 differ in shallow areas. That is why they always suggest navigating by the color of the water in between cays.
Merry Christmas!🎄
